Hi guys... I need some advice on my wr250r issue. Recently I started getting a strange totally annoying whistle-like sound coming from the engine (I think). It vanishes when I release the throttle and is more evident when the engine is running on low revolutions (at least I can not hear it on high revolutions). Dirt noob from NC

Picked up a used 2008 WR250R last friday. I am located in Raleigh, NC.

This is my first dual-sport / enduro/ dirt machine. I own a few sportbikes but never any offroad experience. So far I have hit some dirt roads and a few trails ... tons of fun for not breaking the speed limit.

Anyone have a link to an online manual for the WRR?

Just picked up an '08 WRR with 1200 miles on it for $3,500. I'm 52 and have been riding since 1970. Currently have an '08 KLR 650, a plated XR 250, and an '85 KDX 200 in prime shape. My wife is 46 and told me to either buy her a bike or she would. I bought her an '08 XT 250. She took a dirt bike riding class and a street riding class last summer and got her endorsement. We had a blast riding around Mt. Rainier and the Cle Elum area this year. Love this forum and looking forward to all the mods.

Coolant type

What type of commonly available non-silicate coolant is good for the WRR (or any bike)?

I've always heard that you want a non-silicate coolant for bikes because they are easier on the water pump; but I've never seen coolant marked as such (unless it's the way overpriced stuff at a bike shop).

So, which make/model of coolant is silicate free?

What are you guys getting? Commuting to work with some light offroad action at night, Im calculating it out to be 61.5mpg on a pretty consistent basis. I also ride like an asshole at times so that could factor in... haha.

Recently I have installed the FMF fuel programer to my 08 X. After bugging a member for info about "this & that" & getting more than my share of excellant data, I received #s & good advice. I even called Dobeck. They actually manufacture the FMF unit. FMF Powercore4 vs Q4 Result!

Well, I chose to go with the Powercore4 over the Q4. I was initially concerned about the Powercore4 being too loud.

I'm not concerned anymore. It's loud, but it's not bad at all. Sounds great actually. :)

Brake Solution

I have not been impressed with the performance of the OEM brakes. First I tried substituting a set of HH sintered pads and that helped somewhat but not nearly enough. I just installed a Galfer braided steel front line and it completely transformed the braking performance. Huge bang for the buck IMO. I'd suggest starting with the Galfer line as I think the OEM pads are basically OK. It seems to be that long spongy rubber brake line that is the source of most of the problem.

I have ordered the AIS removal kit from krabill, the case saver from Ivan, a speedohealer from 12O'Clocklabs, a full Sidewinder Ti sproket and smart chain kit 14/49.
