I have not been impressed with the performance of the OEM brakes.

First I tried substituting a set of HH sintered pads and that helped somewhat but not nearly enough.

I just installed a Galfer braided steel front line and it completely transformed the braking performance. Huge bang for the buck IMO.

I'd suggest starting with the Galfer line as I think the OEM pads are basically OK. It seems to be that long spongy rubber brake line that is the source of most of the problem.

Please help a dirt-virgin out here a little.

I need some technical advice to get my off-road game into gear a bit.

Scenario: about 12-16 inches high with a steep face, then a flat, then a steep face dropping off the other side. (small table top)

dirt approach obviously.

So there's not much time for self-correction once you commit. You're gonna hit this thing and land in a very short period of time.

Here's my question: How do you take this jump and have the bike (along with ...

Here's where I am starting today:

1, 7, 7, 1, 1, 1

If I'm hearing correctly the first number is cruising. No need to dump more fuel when cruising.

Second number is acceleration. Jacked it up. I want front wheel lifting snap.

Third number is full throttle. I want gas baby.

Forth number is useless without NOS. No NOS baby.

Fifth number is how quick gas in second number comes on. Lower is quicker. Snap.

Sixth number is how quick gas comes on in third ...

So the question. Anyone using their X bike on trails? How is it? I can't buy new dirt wheels this year so my choice needs to be careful. I think that the WR250 Series is the smartest choice for what I'll be doing, but I'm still up ...

Steps? Handicapped ramps? Loading docks?

I'd like to know some basic step riding techniques if you got them?

Going up steps specifically. The approach, the first step, how your throttle hand plays the engine, shifting gears.....??????

In the mornings when I ride to work I love to hit a sidewalk handicap ramp and get some air under both tires. That's the extent of my "jumping" experience to date.

The front tire.. much bigger. almost 4" taller.

The back tire. Still almost 2" taller.

I don't notice that much with the gearing. It's already pretty high. I'm thinking of going with a bigger rear sprocket.. maybe getting a better chain..

Handling is different. I lowered the front, & it's not quite as smooth on low speed cornering.. might need to raise the forks a bit.

Ate up my rear stocker at about 1900 miles.

Picked up some Avon Distanzias. 150/60 rear 120/70 front. Anyone who rides an X and likes to ride dirt every now and then, should really considers these tires. Great for street give up nothing leaned over and really hook up in the dirt. I should put the word "mild" in front of dirt. Fire roads, dirt trails, is as far as my X gets dirty.

Oil you use in your X

What are you using in your wr250X ?

I'm just getting to the end of the break-in period and wondering what I should fill the bike with when I change my oil.

Summer here in the Mid-Atlantic region is typically in the 80's and 90's. Very humid mostly. Rarely lower than 60 until fall.

I figure I'll be changing the oil once the weather really starts to change in late fall.

So....what's your experience with summer time oils?

40 weights? 50 weights? 30 weights?

Just wondering if anyone else's WR had no wheelweights on the rims when they bought their bike new? I'm not noticing any significant shake on the highway but I wonder if the bike would be smoother if the rims were balanced? I seriously doubt they are perfectly balanced without any weights. I've mounted lots of car tires at the shop where I work & even the high end tires & wheels need a few ounces added. My old YZF600R had wheelweights clipped in the center rib on the front & rear ...

Getting the X a little dirty - Labor Day 2009

Unfortunately the day was quite cloudy

Who called the Coast Guard?

Up is easier than down...

These were taken today along the C&D canal in Delaware.

I forget which forum member commented that I need to actually ride my bike. It was based on the fact that my bike looked so clean I think.

So today I found some dirt and mud along the canal

Here's what I brought home.

My buddy has a SM450 and he is talking about getting some knobbies so he can hit the dirt with me.
He says he can get 17" dirt tires for front and rear, is this true? The Husky site says it comes with a 16.5" front and 17" rear.
I saw the picture of the fat-tire WRR and it looks like he has a rear tire mounted on the front rim. Any input is appreciated.

So I got my unit installed. It works enough to send gas and air to the motor. I guess the standard mode it starts in is a default almost factory program? The green light blinking in the number one light.

When I press the mode button different color lights start blinking in different numbers.

Is there some rhyme or reason that's easily defined as to what I'm seeing?

The tutorial on the Attitude Industries web pages looks a bit different than what I'm seeing on my unit.
