I thought the same thing when I set out on the TaT. Went with the 244's (Kenda 270 knock offs) then we hit that long stretch of mud road. In the middle of that ordeal I was wondering why I was so cheap with my tire selection for the ride.
But for around town and lots of pavement I would say the Kenda 270 and Shinko 244's would be tough to beat.
Yup, I put a better knobby on when I go for a good off road day-weekend tour. Just use the K270 to melt on the roads for my commute.
