I marked out the cut line and used a hacksaw to rough it out leaving extra material, then "trimmed to fit" on a belt sander and cleaned the edges with a fine file and a deburring tool.

I did mine with these measurements and it turned out great. Link: http://www.supermotojunkie.com/showthread.php?69443-WR250X-Front-Fender-Options&p=677551#post677551

If you're cutting 4 inches off....start by cutting off the first two and see what you're getting yourself into.

I used a fine toothed wood saw. Coping saw I believe it's called.
Taped out the way I wanted it to look and followed the tape lines.
Then used a file, and then used sand paper.

Be sure to post pictures of what you end up with.  thumb

If you have any hobby shops around swing by and see if they have a "bone saw" for styrene and plastic. It cuts through very quickly and a very fine line, less then 1mm in thickness, I use them for any straight lines on plastic then a very fine sanding block for details. Also, once you cut it the plastic may look flat in color, another trick is (using a scrap piece), hit the cut edge with a torch just a tiny bit at a time, usually brings back the gloss color pretty good.

I did mine this past March while doing the rest of the "standard mods".
I'll try to get my lazy ass to snap a couple new pics in the sun one of these days....
