How Much Maxima FFT On Air Filter?

PostSubject: How Much Maxima FFT On Air Filter?   Mon Sep 29, 2014 11:56 pm

I'm running the stock foam air filter. I've been cleaning it then placing it in a gallon Ziploc with Maxima FFT and gently squeezing the oil throughout the foam. I have been using around 8 ounces of Maxima FFT and coverage seems to be adequate. However, I'd be grateful for the advice of folks with more miles on their WRs. Should I be using more oil on the filter? I don't want to have excess oil dripping into the airbox but I also want to avoid insufficient oiling of the foam.

Thanks for your experience on this.

Very important:

First, you have to make sure you have all of the foam saturated with the filter oil.
In doing that, it doesn't matter if you use 8 ounces or a gallon; just get all of the foam - inside and outside and in between - covered with oil.
At this point, it doesn't matter if it's dripping with oil because the next step will take care of that.

Equally very important:

You must squeeze out all of the excess oil.
I like to put paper towels on the inside and outside and give it a good squeeze.
I'll do this two times, too.
You'll be amazed at how much excess oil is soaked up, and the excess oil, should it be left on the filter, will only tend to drip off or restrict air flow, or both.
Squeezing out the excess oil will not make your filter suck dirt, but is how the filter is supposed to be.
When done squeezing, remove paper towels and put the filter on the bike.

I use Maxima FFT myself, and have been for at least 30 years.
It's the best I know of.
