I'm just past the scheduled valve check as I turned 27k. I will be checking this myself in the coming weeks but wanted to know of those that have done the check - were you out of spec or still in line. Going to check either way - I'm not questioning as if a reason to put it off but just curious.

That, and just your thoughts on what's worn (or not) nearing 28k.

Ok guys just to add some figures for the record, since this looks like the "official" place to list 'em...

I checked my valve clearance very early on due to dismantle for 290 B/B kit - so mine are from the engine covering only 8,500 KLM's - which converts to just over 5,000 Miles. So my figures as per below,

For the Intake valves, clearance was = one valve at 0.15mm, and the other at 0.18mm.

For the Exhaust valves, clearance was = one valve at 0.20mm, with the other being at 0.23mm.

*****************************************************************************************

All the above listed clearance for my engine were checked at "stone" cold.

So the factory listed spec's for cold valve clearance are as per below,

Intake = 0.13~0.20mm.

Exhaust = 0.23~0.30mm.

Therefore as you can see, the clearance for my intake valves were very good, with both being nicely in the mid range of the spec's.

For the exhaust you can see that one clearance was right at the lower end of spec, with the other being just below spec on the "tight" side.

Anyway i hope that others who have also checked their V/C's may be able to add to the list here.
It would be great to have a single thread to compile the history, for both short & long term mileage.

Good thread,

Cheers guys.

Just to add on this, at that amount of mileage i would also definately be replacing the timing chain tensioner regardless. ( It may well be that the OP is planning on doing this ? ).

Cheers.

Welp.....Just turned 30k and still have not checked the valves  hide  Bike still runs flawlessly but seeing 30000 has me now concerned. I just requested in a sep thread to have someone email me the service manual. Maybe this weekend i'll tear into it. Never checked valves before - any tips?

Clean the bike really well, and don't try to skip any steps. It always seems like doing it the long way ends up being quicker in the end for me. Have fun. Owning motorcycles should always be enjoyable, that's why we have them.

PostSubject: Checked valves at 24,000 last winter   Just tured 27k EmptySun Oct 12, 2014 6:00 pm

Last winter I checked the valves and all were in the middle of the specification. I see the not on the cam chain tensioner and am not sure what to think.

Right now my concern would be more likely to thinnk about replacing cables this winter. Anyone have any thoughts on that?
