Air box modification"s affect on mileage Empty

I am new to the forum. I purchased my WR last summer and currently have a little over 6,000 miles on it. I have done several modifications to make the bike more comfortable for me on a trip, but have not done anything to the motor. I see that many people make the airbox modification. Could someone who has done that modification let me know if that had a positive or negative effect on the gas mileage. I like to get a high mpg. number as that allows me to go further between gas stops. I did change my tank to a 3.1 gallon capacity and that helped my range. I don't want to lose that as I plan to use this bike for trips. In March I put 3,000 miles on a trip from Pa. to Kansas by way of Tennessee, and the bike held up very well. So did I thanks to a Sergeant seat, a Madstad windshield, Heated grips, and highway pegs. I have had many larger touring bikes and I would have to say that I was no more tired at the end of the day on the WR than on the other bikes I've owned. Great little bike with a great little motor, but it does seem like it could breathe a little better.

If higher mpg's is your goal - leave the motor, airbox, and exhaust system as stock as possible.

Spend your time researching gearing options for the right blend of throttle response and best highway rpm's for mileage.

We used to have a guy here who specialized in getting over 100 mpg's out of his 250r/x.

I don't know how he did it, nor do I care, as I don't ever really care what my mpg's are. dunno
