PostSubject: 2014 WR250r Healtech GIpro x-type install   2014 WR250r Healtech GIpro x-type install EmptySat May 21, 2016 9:39 pm

I posted this in another forum and thought i would share it here as well... I am a little excited because it actually works.. lol

I own a 2014 Yamaha Wr250r
This morning i installed the "Healtech GI-Pro x-type with GPX-Y01 harness" gear position indicator.
I have never had a need for one in the past for any bike i have ridden. However, my S1000rr has one and i kind of like the novelty of it.
Let me start off saying i am pretty much mechanically inept, but i managed to get it done.
This is actually an easy thing to install. (Although i did stress a little because of lack of mechanical skills)

The installation guide that is supplied with the wiring harness is a generic one and therefore not very specific.
You can download the WR250R/X from their website.

http://healtech-electronics.com/docs/Supplementary%20Manuals/GPX-Y01_WR250X_2008-2013_en.pdf

It does say 2008-2013 but it worked fine for my 2014 (i assume they are wired pretty much the same... part of my stressing out)

firstly remove the seat, fairings, side panels and tail plastics (needed to trace the rear brake light cable)

front fairings, side panel

rear plastics

i Located the connectors needed, brake light switch and speed sensor connector (both on left side)

i then undone the petrol tank, propped it up.

I Routed the wiring and GPI where i thought it would be best. (i left plenty of slack near the triple clamps)

Wiring

i went back under tank with wiring

2014 WR250r Healtech GIpro x-type install 20160515_092920_zpsii8cypgm

next i had to tap the wires (they supply 2 red wire tap connectors i lost the little metal piece for 1 of them.. i had to visit auto outlet and buy another hence the black one and more stress)
the green and black wire go to the orange wire coming out of ecu
2014 WR250r Healtech GIpro x-type install 20160515_092905_zpsrwraqyve
the red and black wire gets tapped in to the brown wire from the brake light switch

Connect the male and female plugs on the wiring harness to the speed sensor. male from the harness to female on the bike and female on the harness to male on the bike
unfortunately i forgot to photograph this but they are both connected in this pic and tucked away

I then tided up the excess wires and cable/zip tied all into place

Put the bike back together (i checked it was working before putting bike together- turned the key and the device lit up)

2014 WR250r Healtech GIpro x-type install 20160515_100711_zpsajalspnt

I then mounted the GPI display to the left of the Dashboard
2014 WR250r Healtech GIpro x-type install 20160515_101409_zpsywgw6hjz

Turned the bike on. The unit will 1st cycle through numbers 6-1 then stop at "L" learning mode

The instructions that come with the display (Gipro x-type) are pretty good and are quite easy to understand
It takes a few minutes of riding to program the gears. (can stop and start traveling while programming in the gears, it's really easy)
Can be done on a stand but i didn't like the idea of having the bike running in gear whilst on a stand.

That is how i done it. like i started off saying i am by no means mechanically minded. i thought to myself, fck it i will give it a go.
I am quite content with my little achievement

Thanks for the post. I have one on my DL650 Vstrom and love it. When riding the WR I am always looking for gears "7-10" but never find them! Ha Ha. I have just bought the WR and am in the middle of deciding what I want to spend the $$ on. I did just add a GPS cradle and have a Oled screen voltage meter to install. can't decide between gear selector or speedometer corrector.

Thanks for the post

I just bought a Chinese clone of this off Ebay. Used the same instructions and it works perfectly.

Well done. Great post and instructions. People with insecurities and/or limited wrenching history often write the best how-to's because they know how stressful it is when something is unclear or left out. You'll likely take on more projects as you experience one like this and gain confidence. As you found, the satisfaction of doing it yourself is pretty awesome. Cheers.
