I searched but only found some really old threads.

I am considering converting my 2009 Winona Ryder to tubeless. I'm pretty clear on a few different methods of cleaning and rim sealing.
What is not clear to me is can I use the current tires, Pirelli Scorpions, which are for tubes? If not, what tires would the collective recommend?
I haven't had the tires off. I do not know if the stock DID rims have a internal bead safety flange or not. I do not know if that is necessary.
Thanks for any and all recommendations for how I can safely accomplish this DIY task.

I converted mine to tubeless and had run them for close to 10k miles on the WRR. I had been converting to tubeless on other bikes for more than a decade and have accumulated tens of thousands of miles.

Any tyre will work, you don't need tubeless-specific tyres.

Safety bead is not necessary.

Having said all that, my advice is not to bother with the conversion; Tubliss is a far better system, and worth what it costs (which is not much). I bought new wheels, installed Tubliss in them so I can directly compare with my tubeless setup, and my tubeless wheels are now for sale.

So I can use my current tube type tires in tubeless configuration? Even on road? I have a kit coming for sealing the rims and spoke holes. I will look into Tubliss more. Thank you!

Yes, you can run your current tyres.

Tubeless tyres supposedly have an additional barrier in the carcass to prevent air from escaping; in practice you will never see a difference.

The two major problems with tubeless tyres show up when you start going off-road: you cannot run low pressures, and you run the risk of breaking the seal. The high pressures will limit your traction, speed, and fun, and the risk of breaking the seal will make you nervous being stranded in the middle of nowhere.

Tubeless wheels are great for supermotards and primarily asphalt duties; once you decide to spend significant time off-road, Tubliss is a superior solution.

Do yourself a favour and get a TPMS system; if the seal fails, it will give you an advance warning before the tyre breaks off from the rim and you get stranded. I learned this lesson the hard way.
