Quick backstory

Bought a used 08 WRR.  Has ran great for about 2 years.  Other day it had power when the key was in but wouldnt crank over.  Bump started okay but ran horrible, not even ridable.  I'm 99% sure this is causing the problem.  Anyone know if this plugs in somewhere important?  I do not remember seeing it before.  I think this is causing the trouble. It runs from right under the seat next to the big wire harness down toward the battery.

Thanks in advance, I'm a newb.

I am not sure but that looks like a Posilock connector which would not be a stock connector.

The prior owner probably had something wired into that is my guess. You can use a volt meter and see if it has power to it with the key in the off position and then check it with the key in the on position. if it does then I probably would wrap some electrical tape or heat shrink the end to prevent it from shorting out against a ground.

While you have your voltmeter out check you battery voltage. It should be around 12 or 12.5 volts. If it is not then charge the battery and see what happens. If you charged it and it is still low then it may be time for a new battery.

Also, do you know if the stator recall was done on the bike (the stator is what provides power to charge the battery)? If not, call your local Yamaha dealer and give them the VIN#. They can tell you if it has been done and if not get the bike to them and have them replace the stator - there should be no charge to you for that work.

Thanks a lot !  Will check that line for power tonight after work.  I did pull the battery and checked it was right around 12.6.

Do I use the same setting on the voltimeter to check this loose cable?  Touch one end or two with the voltimeter?

Thanks Again

ETA Will also call dealership and ask about recall .

Checked the loose cable tonight after work.  I turned the key to the on position and it still measured zero on the voltimeter.
I called the local dealer to inquire about the recall.  They said my bike had not been repaired.  Already dropped it off, they should be able to repair tomorrow. Lucky for me the parts were in stock.
