Howdy! I picked up a 2016 left-over Friday. I had been wanting a dual-sport for awhile now. I started riding in 2002 with a KLR650 and have kind of missed the DS feel. I have been riding my wife's KLX 140L on a single-track I made through the woods on our property and have been having a lot of fun with it. Labor Day I went for a ride with a co-worker on some pretty tough rocky/muddy ATV trails. It was a blast, so I decided to turn up the heat on getting a DS. I almost bought a Beta, but their network is very thin in my area and i got tired of waiting for the stars to align on that. The more I thought about it, the more I didn't want to deal with the race bike maintenance. So I decided to go with the Yamaha. I traded my Hypermotard for it, but don't regret it at all. The Ducati was going to either get me arrested or killed.

This is the second Yamaha I have owned, with my first being a 1983 RX 50. It shares the garage with my Z125, which is a stupid fun little bike. I already ordered tires(D606 rear and XCMH front), skid plate, hand guards, 12t front(until I kill the stock chain), and a 3 gallon tank. I already love this thing and I haven't hit 100 miles yet. wings

Jason,

I'm in Palmer and am dying to find some trails to have fun on!

Dfoustou,

Sorry to hear about your old one. The new ones don't seem to be selling very well which seems odd to me considering they don't really have any competition with everything either being much more expensive or not nearly as capable. I haven't seen very many used ones for sale either.

When the T7 is released, I hope that our fellow riders put WRs on sale.

I'm not sold on the T7. It seems like a KLR 650 with power. Just too heavy to do any real off-road. Honda made a nice bike in the Africa Twin for that, but those don't seem to be selling well in my area. I know of two dealers with 2016s still sitting in their showrooms. These companies are trying to reinvent the wheel when all that is really needed are updates to the current 650 dual sports. Make them lighter, fuel injected, and upgrade the suspensions. Modernize the looks a bit and boom, success. Kawasaki was onto something with the Versys-X and Honda had a glimmer of hope with the 250 rally. The Kawi just wasn't off-road worthy-nuff and the Honda is still under-sprung and under-powered. They need to think outside the box a little. How about the Versys-X engine in the KLX-250?

the Versys seems to be a nice alternative.
