PostSubject: WR250R in process   WR250R in process EmptyThu Apr 15, 2010 5:56 pm

So, I've been eyeing this bike for a bit and slogging my way through the monster ADVRider thread (up to page 311!) and in a fit of impulse, I'm now the lead bidder on one through eBay. If that falls through, I've found a leftover '08 at a local dealer for a reasonable deal but either way I plan on joining the community.

I recently moved to Utah with my BMW F650GS (the single) which I love, but it's kind of a beast on the dirt. I wanted to get something more nimble (and maybe down the road take the 650 up to something bigger and more slab-suited.) I've only been riding a couple of years - definitely a n00b, especially on dirt. Any riders in the greater SLC area? (I'm in Park City)

If I get the eBay one, it'll be bone stock - the dealer has discounted some accessories they had left over as well (acerbis guards, ricochet plate.) If I get the eBay one, any suggestions on hand guards? It'd freak me out to ride dirt without something there (have them on the BMW already)

Anyway, love the site, love all the discussion (on ADVRider and here - haven't browsed ThumperTalk too much yet.) The Fuel Injection (I'm at altitude!) and the community were the big selling points for me.

And now I'm suspicious - after posting this, I was shortly outbid on that eBay bike. Hmmmmmmmmmmm :)

$3850 for a 2008 with 39 miles on it: Auction link

I'd have to ship it cross-country, vs $5199 ($5800 OTD) for new (2008) locally with warranty and plate. What do you guys think?

The first one is a good price. WR250R in process 61865 The second one seems a bit steep; I'm not sure what prices are there but usually they're a fair jag lower than here in Canada, and it's not far off from what the leftover 08's are here.

Yeah, I've been working on the dealer, but my negotiating position was hurt when someone picked up their other model recently. The did include a bunch of other stuff for only $200 more OTD (Richochet bash plate, Acerbis guards and Pro Moto Billet rack)

$3850 would be a great price, but who knows where it'll end up - if it gets to $4500 or so, after shipping not sure it's worth it.

Anyway, I'll get in the gang eventually!

And lost the auction - it went for... $4500. Gonna go harass the dealer again tomorrow. I definitely want in.

And of course found a craigslist locally right after writing the check! No never mind! I'm hitting the road this weekend weather permitting.

Scrounged a RAM mount for my hiking gps (Garmin Colorado) and have some fire road waypoints to try. Should have guards, rack and skid plate sorted as well. Debating the the 12 T sprocket, but want to experience stock first. Signing off here and into the main forums.

Well, it stopped snowing. And I took it out - now have 140 miles on it. Loving it! Only mods so far are handguards, rack, skidplate and a RAM mount for my GPS.

Wild range of conditions - this little beast did it all.

Should I do this to my shiny new bike?
