| Where is everyone getting their oil filters from? Does anyone know the filter number that can be cross-referenced at an auto parts store? I usually have good luck with getting motorcycle filters at the local Napa, but they need a part number. A Fram number usually helps them the most. Sometimes a WIX number will work too. |

| I don't have a Wix or Fram, but I do have a K&N oil filter that will be going in at the next oil change. It is part # KN-141. |

| Interesting. I didn't knw that K&N made oil filters. I'll look into that. Are they washable like the air filters? |

| Never mind that last question about the K&N. I looked it up and it appears that they have a line of disposable filters. I didn't realize that before. I'll see how badly they rob me on the price here and how that compares to the Yamaha filter. Who knows. Maybe the local Napa dealer can cross reference that part number too. Thanks. |

| I paid $8.99 + tax for the K&N. The dealer charges over $10 for the yamaha filter. |

| Thanks Machtig. The K&N site showed that to be the same filter for the WR250X/R/F, WR450, and the YZ and the XT225. From there it was easy to get a cross reference. So, here is the info on our filters:
Fram: CH6005 WIX: 24936 Purolator: ML16805 K&N: KN-141
height: 2.252" OD: 2.170" ID: 0.787"
Fram is the last filter brand I would use, but I usually have the best luck with that has a cross-refernce number. Napa should be able to get me something from this list.
Thanks. |

| What concerns me is mine and my dads (99' and '06) XT225s use a completely different filter than my R². K&N is probably just dorked up on that, I think the others share our oil filter, but not the XT225. |

| Hmmm... That gives pause for concern.
We didn't have them both out at once for a good comparison. I'll try to get a pair based upon the numbers found thus far and report back when I've tried them in the bikes. |

those measurements don't make sense the oem filter part number is 5D3-13440-00 (red box) superceeds 5TA-13440-00... blue box
the filter is tiny
height: ~1 3/4" OD: ~1 7/16"
Try looking into: K&N 141 Hi Flo HF-141 Emgo M79130 Vesrah VSF2008 |

| Call me anal (everyone else does), but I use only oem filters on my bikes & cars. More than in a "regular" engine, the filter in a wet clutch motor has to work very hard. A small difference in size could cause the filter to bypass dirty oil and nasty stuff. Aftermarket filter vendors may list a filter that is "fairly close" for multiple applications (I've seen it many times on auto applications). My dealer charges six dollars and change for the oem filter, so I buy it from him. On the other hand, my local Honda stealership zapped me 13.99 for a filter that I got online from another Honda dealer for under six bucks. Pays to shop! |

OK, you're anal.
But then so am I. I use nothing but OEM filters in my stuff too. But then I get them at cost so it's not a big deal. Same thing goes for the oil. I'm not racing this thing so no need for high priced oil and filters. And as for the others, well, if you want to save a few cents on an oil filter, go for it. I don't see the need to save a few pennies on oil and filters at the cost of engine damage down the road (that may or may not be covered under warranty). Remeber the old TV commercial? You can pay me now or you can pay me later. I prefer to pay now. It's cheaper in the long run. But no matter what you do, at least change your oil and filter on a regualr basis. It's cheap insurance. |

Yes I do. That's why I am even pickier on filters. Most OEMs do not make parts like filters themselves and I won't risk a bad brand, so I choose more carefully than that.
It's not all about price. It's about not paying a stupidly outrageous price for a P.O.S. |

| Hi, just read all this stuff. Did an oil & filter change today. OE filter cost me £14 in UK money which seems a lot more than you guys are paying. Will have to shop around next time, maybe an aftermarket equivalent. Thanks again for all the info. I love this site!

| Normally I use OEM filters only in my street bikes but lately I've been using the K&N's on my ZRX, my GF's SV and now the WR. I've seen some pretty poorly made aftermarket filters but the K/N's look pretty good thus far. They are kinda pricey but I'm always on the look out for group buys or deals on Fleabay. I'm in for 10 OEM's or K&N's if someone wants to set up a group buy. |

| I did eventually get Napa filters to fit the WRX. I haven't posted yet because I keep forgetting to bring the correct numbers in from the shop. I will get to that and post up.
One important thing though. The WRX and XT FILTER ARE NOT THE SAME! we pulled both out at the same time and compared. The WRX filter is too short for the XT and is missing the oil holes needed to lube the top end so there is no way it will work. Any site that shows them to be the same is, in my opinion, on glue. |

| I was using OEM, but on my last TT order I got a couple Hi Flo's. I change the filter on every oil change, no way I'm leaving that sucker in there for 6000 miles on a motor that turns high revs, has a wet clutch, and shares oil with the transmission. |

| Anyone notice the K&N # is KN141 & the Hi Flo # is HF141. Why does this make me think these are the same filters, only the cost is different? Rhetorical question, need not reply. I have looked at each filter side by side when buying for my 08 KLR & there was NO difference. Save some $, & then spend it on tires. |
