| If you're running stock Yamaha gearing, regardless of tire choice, I'd recommend without question changing your gearing up at least a tooth, or teeth. Stock gearing sucks. Unless you're all about long runs on boring interstates and/or gas mileage. Just be aware that any gearing change completely FUBARS your speedometer and means you should also look into a speedo corrector. _________________ 2008 WR250X Gearing: 13t - 48t Power Commander 5 / PC-V Airbox Door Removed - Flapper glued - AIS removed FmF Q4 Bridgestone Battlax BT-003rs

| Hi all. Proud new owner of used 2008 WRX (and former lurker) here. I need to replace the current front tire (BT090), but not 100% sure what to do because the rear has the Kenda pictured below on it. I already have a set of R wheels/tires, so I don't need any off-road capabilities with my X tires, but I don't really want to replace both tires yet if I don't necessarily need to.. I guess what I'm asking is *should* I put a similar tire to the rear on the front or does it really matter? Thanks! | |

| This bike came with these tires. Same on the front and rear. Didn't get to ride on them for long. About 80 miles in, my chain snapped. Can I run the twisties with these tires on? | |

Just in case you aren't kidding, NO you probably should not be running twisties with those knobbies. There are plenty of suggestions on this thread for good tires for the X, whether full street or dual sporting tires that are still capable of going in the twisties - it all depends on where you are going to use your bike the most. Chain snapping sounds pretty dangerous, I hope you and the bike are OK.

I would highly recommend a certified, motorcycle safety riding and training course for you. _________________ 2008 WR250X Gearing: 13t - 48t Power Commander 5 / PC-V Airbox Door Removed - Flapper glued - AIS removed FmF Q4 Bridgestone Battlax BT-003rs

| Cycle Gear has BATTLAX BT003 RS RACING MOTORCYCLE TIRES on sale for $226.32 for a set.
110/70/17 front 140/70/17 rear
Can anybody think of a reason NOT to snap these up?
Seems like a damn fine deal. _________________ 2008 WR250X Gearing: 13t - 48t Power Commander 5 / PC-V Airbox Door Removed - Flapper glued - AIS removed FmF Q4 Bridgestone Battlax BT-003rs

| The BT003R's are wiked in the twisties.. I've even take mine into some pretty good off-roading and they performed pretty well considering it's a street bike racing tire..
But I think for my next set, I may go with Distanzia's.. For the type of hooligan riding I'm doing anyway..
Those with Distanzia's, how do you like them?

| Grab 'em, the BT003's are so far my favorite sticky tire for the WR! Grip like crazy, last pretty well too. | |

I just spend so much more time on the paved surfaces that I'd rather go back to stock sizes for weight, and sticky tires for the twisty stuff. _________________ 2008 WR250X Gearing: 13t - 48t Power Commander 5 / PC-V Airbox Door Removed - Flapper glued - AIS removed FmF Q4 Bridgestone Battlax BT-003rs

Those with Distanzia's, how do you like them? I've got them on mine, and I love them. I bought them at Canadamotocycle.ca. Cheapest place I could find at this side of the border fast and free shipping too. Highly recommended. Love the look of the Distanzia's too:

Thanks. I'll also add that they do pretty damn well on trails. I ran the Michaux Dual Sport, including all of the C options, and a decent amount of riding out in western MD on the BT003's and had few if any traction problems.

Great - although I'm rarely riding anything off-road these days. I ordered them. Even the guy at Cycle Gear said he can't believe how cheap they're selling those tires for. _________________ 2008 WR250X Gearing: 13t - 48t Power Commander 5 / PC-V Airbox Door Removed - Flapper glued - AIS removed FmF Q4 Bridgestone Battlax BT-003rs

| I've read a lot of reviews that the BT003's aren't very quick to warm up. I was close to a purchase until I read that in several reviews. Anyone try the S20's? | |

I just replaced my S20s. Great tire. Quick to warm up and plenty of traction. They don't give much warning at their limit though.

In reference to what? I've heard nothing but good things about the 003's. Certainly have to be "better" than the stock 090's. _________________ 2008 WR250X Gearing: 13t - 48t Power Commander 5 / PC-V Airbox Door Removed - Flapper glued - AIS removed FmF Q4 Bridgestone Battlax BT-003rs

| The 003's were designed for bigger bikes and didn't introduce our size until later. As far as I know, the compound wasn't changed with the smaller size.
As far as the stock goes, I think it's been a decent winter tire and other than getting 3k out of the rear, I don't have any complaints. I don't ride track, just a twisty 8 mile commute.

So see Skierd's post above. He's got almost 100,000 miles on a wr250r/x. I'm thinking his personal experience is good enough for me. _________________ 2008 WR250X Gearing: 13t - 48t Power Commander 5 / PC-V Airbox Door Removed - Flapper glued - AIS removed FmF Q4 Bridgestone Battlax BT-003rs

| Just mounted this Pilot Road 2 up the other day. It's only got a couple hundred miles on it thus far. But I like everything about it. Except mounting it. Damn sport touring carcasses are hard! It's a 150/70/17. As soon as my front S20 is finished off, I will be pairing this PR2 with a Michilen 2CT. | |

| I'd agree that the bt003 took a couple turns to warm up but usually getting our of my neighborhood was enough. They're more rounded than the stock tire though so the handling is different. They've been my favorite rear x tire I've used so far. | |

I have not considered that. How do they compare to the aforementioned?

| Pure sportbike tires on most off-road stuff are gonna suck.
Unless you're talking hard-packed fire roads you're gonna want more than a street-legal roadracing tire.
A lot depends on what your 20% is.
Read through this thread more. There's lots of pictures and comments.
The Distanzia is truly an 80/20 tire.
