Sorry folks, I've searched, I've read, and I'm still as confused as ever. Here's the story...

I've got my stock wrx and also just picked up a dirt bike, a kx250. I want to put hand guards on both.

The wrx still has the stock steel bar. Is this worth keeping? Or should I just spend the money and get an aftermarket oversized (1 1/8"?)bar?

My kx250 has an aftermarket bar on it. I have no idea what the brand or style is. Long story short, I can't go check and I need to order up something right away.

I'm cheap and ultimately I'd like to get one set of hand guards that will fit both bikes. Something that comes with a universal kit that fits both 1 1/8" and whatever the stock wr bar size is (no friggin clue). I only ride the dirt bike once a month or so and would just swap the hand guards over.

I'm looking at handguards online and there are so many different options, I have no idea what pro taper, low rise, high rise, pro bend, double wall, pro wall, pro poop is!!! Nor do I have any clue what U mount, solution mount, front triple mount, side triple mount is. I'm a little fustrated to say the least, can someone explain this to me, or point me towards a kit that will work for every single bar size and every single pro/amature/weekendwarrior/touring/highway/peewee "bend"? baldy

I don't see a big difference between bars ( and I have both) frankly.

So depending on how often you plan to "Use" your handguards and what you plan to "Test" them on the Acerbis Rally Pro IIs (plastic - no metal) come with adapters for both sizes.

My primary handlebar obstacles are light brush, not trees ( but if it were trees I would not change my strategy to stay completely away from them).

Other's probably fit both size bars as well. Stick around here. You'll get your answers here in no time.

Acerbis Rally Pro X-Strong Handguards

The x strong kit will acccomodate 7/8 bars (oem wrr) or oversized 1-1/8 bars (renthal fatbar, protaper contour, and others I can't remember)

Heres more info:

Congrats on going dirt. You're gonna have fun—and its going to hurt once in awhile, but all worth it. Very happy

In the protaper the various styles refer to the type of bar--ATV Dirt etc, rather or not it has a cross bar and then the dimensions--width, pull back and rise in inches. If the KX bar fits your needs measure it and look for a similar bar, if you want stock sizing do some research and find the stock bar diminsions and then find an after market bar with similiar sizing. The protaper site has all their bars and sizing.
As to the guards--check out Acerbis I think their mounting kit comes with bushings for both size bars. Me I would keep the WRR bar until it gets bent then replace it with a similar size after market bar.
I would not want to be doing guard swaps as it is a pain--check ebay or craigs list you can usually pick up used ones cheap-just make sure all the parts are there, especially the mounting parts.

usually bars come in 7/8inch (regular bars) or 1-1/8 inch bar (oversized). The oversized are the same diameter at the handles but get wider at the clamp.

Standard bars 7/8 bars fit as is.

If you're going to get 1-1/8 bars for your wrx, you'll need to get an aftermarket oversized clamp as well.

This guys got a trick oversized setup

Thanks, I've already gotten hurt, took the kx to the MX track and crashed it a few times. Licking my wounds now, but I'll be back.

Kinda confused about the x-strong kit, I wanted to order from motosport since I have a shopping cart full of other bike goodies from them. But they are claiming that the kit they sell won't fit 1 1/8th, only 7/8th? Do retailers package the guards with different types of mount kits?

Then there's this kit which claims to fit taper bars as well. Are all taper bars 1 1/8?

X-strong fits both bar.

Retailers copy is all wrong. All retailers use the copy given them, therefore, you will see the same misinformation which confuses the hell out of all of us.

The rally pro X strong kits go for around $89-99

The rally pro standard kits go for around $69-79

X-pro kit you asked about above also is universal from appearances.

I'm thinking about taking the WR for some motocross. wink

Also for comparison the stock bars are:

30.7" wide, 3.8" High, 2.6"pullback

I didn't measure as I found this info in another forum (or maybe this one) but it helped when looking at replacements. I went with a Pro-Taper Windham/RM Mid Bend: 31.5" wide, 3.90 High, 2.13" pullback.

Less pullback put my hands in a more comfortable position. The HDB bottom clamp for the 1 1/8 bar raised the height of the bars a little too.

FWIW I really like my enduro engineering bark busters.
