PostSubject: On the fence for a 2009 Black WR250X   On the fence for a 2009 Black WR250X EmptySat Sep 04, 2010 1:52 pm

Hello.

I've been thinking about getting myself another supermoto since I was convinced by the wife that I only needed one bike. So the 05 DRZ400SM with FCR, Muzzy Exaust, and other little things done was sold and I purchased a 2009 Aprilia Shiver. This was before I realized that in Tampa Florida, it rains every day making my 44 miles commute less enjoyable. So the Aprilia is up on the chopping block.

I went and looked at a 2009 WR250X at my local Yamy dealer. I have no experience with them, but have been doing alot of research. If I do make the jump I am going to get a full exhaust and the FMF/Power commander. Do I need a dyno to be able to use the FMF? I'm have a working knowledge of engines, if that helps (mechanic for US Coast Guard).

Anyway, here are some questions that I've had:

1. What seems to be the best pipe? I've read that most seem to have the power bomb and q4, does that seem accurate?
2. Where can I get the best price for the full exhaust and FMF tuner?
3. I've read about the AIS, Servo, Airflap mods. These, I would assume need to be done after I receive the tuner, so I don't run into any problems, correct?
4. Best airfilter for mostly street?
5. I know most new cars come out around this time, is it the same for motorcycles? Is there anything changing in the 2010 models that I should consider before purchasing a left over 2009?

Thanks for any forthcomming advice, or links. I will continue to research here, SMJ, TT and ADV since I'm still debating the purchase.

*EDIT*
After some continuing research what is the tuner to go with? And what is the difference between the Attitude Gen 3, 3.2, and 3.5?

2010s have been out for awhile. It won't be real long before 2011s start popping up. There hasn't been any major changes since the bikes came out in '08 though.

That's right, don't know what I was thinking. I meant the 2011's.

Welcome to the pack! On the fence for a 2009 Black WR250X 61865
With everyone, what you want out of the bike is going to vary. If you just want to get on and ride, and don't care about ripping it up to the hilt, then you can go full stock. Most of us have modified the bike in one way or another, but to get the full potential of the bike, you have to uncork it via pipe, programmer, airbox, gearing, tires. As for the programmers, the AI programmers start off as a basic 3.0. 3.2 you have a bit more tuning and the 3.5 is the full blown everything it can do version. Again, preference with tuners vary by rider. It seems (from what I've seen) that the FMF and the AI are the ones that are the most popular. The Dynojet has some devout followers as well. It's kinda like the Ford/Chevy debate, which one is better but I digress. On the fence for a 2009 Black WR250X 93746 It's all up to you in the end, we will simply give you our opinions, and that will vary from rider to rider. On the fence for a 2009 Black WR250X 619190

Well I got her. Picked her up today on trade for my Aprilia. Did my first heat cycle break in and it was quite a shocker coming from a bigger bike, but it is alot more nimble.

Now I need to figure out the whole registration process, since I am military. Too many conflicting stories. Should get it situated by tomorrow morning.
