I discovered a useful product called Goo Gone http://www.magicamerican.com/googone.aspx. It makes removing grips a two minute affair and the grips can be reused. Here is a video of a grip removal from today.

I've got that stuff! It works great on getting grease out of GoreTex...and other things!

this is easier if you have access to a compressor and a nozzle.
