| Hola gang, I'm getting ready to install some heated grips and decided to replace my old grips as well. Do you need grip glue as I heard here and there? The local shop said just to use hairspray to get the grips on then they are good. Also, what's the best thing to attach the ground wires to? Mine have eyelets like you would bolt them somewhere. Thanks. | |

| Yeah, yeah....hairspray's fine. Ground?.............The battery is grounded to the frame. Or as properly termed, The batteries return is connected to the frame. Yup hook the "eyelets" to the frame. Anywhere on the frame that has continuity to the negative post of the battery. Got a meter? Or connect them to the negative post of the battery directly if they will reach. This would be the best connetion as it is direct to the return side of the system. | |

| Cool beans, thanks.
I got a meter I'll check it when it's installed.

| I didn't notice on my bike but since the frame is aluminium, I doubt the ground is on the frame. | |

| I had used grip glue in the past and have it come loose in a few weeks of use. I then cleaned up the grips and used hairspray and the grips have not moved since. | |

| I used Windex and it worked on mine. When I connected the terminals I have a system that hooks directly to the relay and the negative to the battery. _________________ A wolf's voice echoed down the mountain 'Share the bounty of the hunt with your brothers and sisters, and forever be strong and free.' | |

| NO GLUE, NO HAIRSPRAY, ONLY WIRE IS THE WAY TO GO! I change grips quite a bit and I've found that wire is the best retention tool for multiple changes per year. Put one loop near the ends and one in the center. This is WAY better than struggling them on and off with sticky residue everywhere! Try it, you'll love how easy it goes. | |

| You really need an adhesive with heated grips... they soften and expand as they warm so a simple pressure fit, windex, or hairspray really is ineffective.
I'd tap right to battery - . Ground problems are a common electrical gremlin, so do it right.

| The frame is grounded to the battery (Years ago when copper was too expensive they used aluminum for wire). It is best to run the wire to the battery.
They recommend against using wire to secure grips if you have grip heaters. You should use a glue or epoxy that can withstand 250 DegF.

It's just that the aluminium part of the contact will become an anode and it will lead to the aluminium being corroded. Once corroded it doesn't carry the electricity. Beside it degrades the aluminium. There is a way to prevent that and it's to put a cathodic protection on the frame and to change the anode when degraded. The effect is less in dry conditions.

I did mention it's best to run it back to the battery. I wired mine to a relay that is fed from directly from the battery. How does it degrade the aluminum? Aluminum wire is still used today but only for feeder wires (To the house) not branch wiring (To the outlet). I guess I need some edumacation on this. Cathodes are used on boats to protect aluminum that is submerged in water, I don't know if they would do anything on a motorcycle.

| Ok, so I was totally lazy being that I had to move from WA to Sicilia, Italia and I didn't install my grips yet. I don't have any relays, what wire is the safest to splice it into? Word comes to me to splice into the brown wire near the headlamp. | |

| Or the license plate wire works, too. Here's a big thread if you want to read more:

| Cool beans thanks.
Edit - I decided to try something different (after making a terrible mess on my hands with Super Glue) and used some Gorilla glue. So far, so good feels great.
