Oil Change Empty
PostSubject: Oil Change   Oil Change EmptyFri Mar 18, 2011 11:24 am

Not sure if someone already posted this. However, I'm new and it's good writeup with pictures deal .

My questions, according to the service manual, how often do I have to change the O-Rings?? I'm assuming every oil filter changes??

What's the deal with drain plug washer?

Thanks!

I've never changed the o-rings, and I have 16k on my bike. Never did it on the one that got stolen with 18k on it either. I should probably order a set to have them just in case they come apart on my next change since I just jinxed myself lol.

I replace the plug and washer every three or four oil changes. Never had one leak or round off on me yet, but can't hurt to make sure its new every once in a while. The washer is just a copper flat washer, nothing terribly fancy about it.

I replaced my o-rings last time I changed my oil.

It seemed like I was having to tighten my filter cover bolts almost to the point of braking one of the heads off to get the cover to fit
tight enough to not leak a little oil once I started the bike.

Of course, having snapped the head off one of those butter soft bolts when I did my first oil change on the bike, I'm always as nervous as a
long tailed cat in a rocking chair factory when it comes to torquing those bolts anyway.

So I thought maybe my o-rings were in need of replacement.

Piece of mind at such a minimal cost is worth it.

How expensive are those o-rings? I honestly don't remember.

I don't feel the need to replace them every oil change if that's your question.

I've never replaced any of mine either. Probably 12-15 oil changes so far with the original o-rings and crush washer. As long as you're careful and keep them clean, you should be fine. I make sure to check their condition every time.
