18" front wheel?

I want to convert my R to X but do not want to spent $1500. Could I just spend half the money by just changing the front to
a 18" and keeping the back as is????? and just have 2-18s instead of 2-17s??? has anyone ever done this??
Im looking for all feed back (Devil's advocate) if you can see this would be a problem please let me know.

You can do anything you want to your bike and it will run fine, but there are issues why people do not do this.

Choices of tires. If you keep the rear wheel which is more narrow than the 17inch X wheels, your choices for street tires are going to be pretty slim. I would also imagine your bike won't grip and handle like a regular X. Those tires are going to be pretty skinny.

I really have no experience in this area and this is just my opinion.

use a 2.15-2.50 wide rim

The KLR folks put a wide 18 inch wheel on the front. If you can access this thread there is whole bunch of info. Or, call Woody's Wheel Works in Denver.

That looks great! Did you have any probs. with the break?
Also were did you get the rim and tires and what was your
Reason for not going with 17s
Also is that the same bike in the photos because

Forest from Wheeling cycle did that set special order,the hubs are stock wrx rims are 2.15 f/2.50r
