Hi guys,

A few months back my battery went flat and my speedo went cranky and only showed a blinking "E". Unable to access the diagnostics, hence I have no idea what is the error code. neutral and blinker lights are working, have not seen the fuel or CEL light lid up since then

Has anyone experienced this problem before?

done the airbox mod and added a fmf power programmer, but all was running well till my battery went flat.

I'm thinking of replacing this stock speedo with a vapor meter if it cannot be fixed, has anyone had any issues with the complete removal of the stock speedo assembly?

I don't think you can. The dash is part of the electronics that make the bike run. If you take it off, it won't run anymore. And there are some things a Vapor doesn't have like a neutral light etc.. You could mount the on top of the original dash.

Has anybody picked up a phone and called a Yamaha dealer to ask what that "E" might mean?

Or have dealerships and service departments become so lame they won't discuss such things unless you're paying big bucks for their time?

I went down to my local dealership, they tried a new meter and it worked fine.

all they could say was the meter is spoilt and I will have to replace it with a new one.

It's been done and mentioned on this site as well as others. You lose the diagnostic capability, and that's important if you have a problem of any kind. The diagnostic mode can tell you exactly what's wrong, or pretty close to it. You could run the Vapor right along with the stock unit. Someone on ADVrider mentioned it...

Of course, if your meter is busted, then you're kinda stuck with buyin a new one or just trying to get along with the Vapor.

Warranty?

How does one of those "go bad"?

Have you checked all your fuses?
The ones behind radiator under left side shroud?
