right, decided to pull the trigger and to go for the D603 front although I could not get any feedback from this forum.
Here is a review from TT forum by imora99 posted 07 Oct 2009:
"I finally found some tires for my bike. I ended up with Dunlop D603. They are rated in some places at 60/40% and some others 70/30% being off road the main purpose.
All I can say is that this is another bike!...the improvement in all respects it was just hard to believe for me...I rode last weekend for hours and hours all the time with a big smile on my face! ...If l was so happy with the XT250 before now I am definitely in love...I just can't wait for the weekend to come so I can go riding.
But being a bit more objective, this is are some of the facts:
The stock tires specially the rear lasted 5,000 Km (3,125 miles) riding about 80% of that off road. I could have run the front for a little longer, maybe another 500 Km. but what for?...so replaced it too.
Tire sizes...Front 2.75/21 (stock size), Rear 120/90/18 (10 mm. taller then stock,90 instead of 80). They don't manufacture an 80, so I took the chance.
Prices, Front US$50.00, Rear US$70.00. While looking for information on the tires I found that this prices are similar in other places in the world, like the UK and US.
There are no issues whatsoever fitting the rear tire. One thing is I did have to balance them but eventually didn't on the rear tire as it would require I huge chunk of lead to balance the weight of the piece (don't know the name) that secures the tire to the rim. On the front tire I did balanced and it required about 6 or 8 sticks of self sticking lead and it balanced perfect.
After I put them on I tried first on the street, increasing slowly the speed to check for anything unusual. Feeling nothing different I went to the road (paved) and accelerated little by little until eventually I reached speeds in excess of 100 Km/h. No issues either whatsoever. I approached the first curve of the road and as I leaned over I felt the first hint of difference...the bike turns a lot easier and faster with the new tires. I found my self oversteering as I would lean on the curve just to much still used to the older tires. With the 603s it feels so easy and inspire so much confidence that pretty soon I was leaning so much I could feel I was going to touch the tar with the point of my boot. First big smile here . Another thing is that the bike now vibrates much less, so my butt was not feeling the tar as much as before. Second big smile! .
I thought to myself..."well, so far so good...if only this improved riding on tar was all I'd get I'd be pleased with the tires"
After about an hour of riding on tar, I decided I was ready for the true test...going off road!... (will continue later...have some work to do...unfortunately I am not retired like some fellow rider that leaves farther south in Central America ) "
Based on the abover review and an advise from a fellow rider I decided to get the D603 and the 1st 15km home from the workshop with the new tyre is smooth. I need to a couple more rides before i can post a review.
The size is the same as the stock TW so that works for me in terms of not raising the bike's height.
