PCV and FMF

Hello all!

Haven't posted in quite a while, but I've been silently monitoring from the shadows between rides.

Anyways, finally pulled the trigger on a Megabomb, Q4 and PCV for the WRR. I have to fabricate a block off plate for the AIS port after work today, as I can't seem to find one anywhere in Canada. I'm more than willing to pay $15 for the plate, but not willing to pay $50 for shipping to get it here...

I'm fairly mechanically inclined, but this is the first new bike I've ever bought, and the first I've owned with FI. I'll admit I'm a little intimidated to start messing with the PCV, but also looking forward to getting a little more intimate with the bike. I have read through the FI mapping thread, but figured I would pick some brains and see if there's anything I should know or watch out for before digging in. I'll be trying a couple of the base maps from the PC website, but if anyone is running the same setup I'm curious to know what mapping you're using.

After installation is complete, my setup will be:

2016 WR250R

- 13/48 gearing (this was a fantastic upgrade for little money, unbelievable difference in the trails)
- AIS removed
- EXUP removed, emulator installed
- Airbox flapper mod, stock filter (not planning to mod/cut the door, the WRR and I get very dirty very often)
- Q4 and Megabomb
- PCV

Guess I should mention that I'm about 500' above sea level, if that actually matters.

Seriously though, I'd look for someone with a dyno. I already have actually, before I do any power mods I plan on talking to them, running baselines, and such. The problem is seat of the pants, doesn't equate to more power where you want it. Since you got the mega and not the power bomb I'm assuming you want a little more torque, this is all about balance. You gain hp you loose torque, the reverse is true. It's just a 250 so it's more important than if you had more of each to start with.

Anyways, objectophilia aside, I would gladly spring for a dyno run and custom mapping if it were anywhere close to an option in my tiny Newfoundland town, but its not in the cards in the near future.

You are correct in assuming that torque is what I'm after. I spent weeks reading everything I could find in relation to the Powerbomb vs Megabomb debate and the Megabomb sounded like the best option to fit my riding needs, which is low and slow... the rougher the trail, the bigger the smile betwixt my ears. I rarely do more than 100 km/h and have never heard my rev limiter.

I found the change in secondary gearing alone made a tremendous difference in how the bike reacts to my specific brand of abuse. Honestly, I'm perfectly content with the performance gain from the bigger chainring and probably could have stopped there, but where's the fun in that!?

Once I learn how to use it, I will undoubtedly be forever fiddling with my new programmer (tinkering is in my blood, and I ain't ever satisfied), and I'm looking forward to every second of it.

I'm just hoping to find a good baseline map from which I can build off.
