So, as part of my winter maintenance I've decided to remove the swing arm (mainly so I can clean/lube everything, and get the stock chain off without destroying it. I have a new chain/sprocket set to install as well.) I followed the service manual instructions and it's gone reasonably well. I'm at the last nut - that holds the actual swing arm pivot point. Is there some kind of special thin-walled socket that's needed? Nothing I have seems to fit. It feels like I can just push the brake pedal away, but do I have to remove that as well?

I did, it made it a lot easier than to fight the damned thing. I didn't use a thin walled socket, once the rear brake is out of the way you'll have more room to play with it. Swingarm removal? 61865

I'm taking my swing arm off and have run into the same problem. I can't get a wrench in there to remove the pivot shaft nut. It sounds like I need to remove the brake pedal to get it out of the way. Unfortunately I don't know how to do it. Lot's of springs etc. Don't want to screw it up. Can someone guide me through the removal of the brake pedal? Thanks!

I removed the brake pedal to install new footpegs. Piece of cake. Just remove the cotter pin from the back end of the bolt holding the pedal on, unscrew the bolt, and the pedal just hangs down out of the way. Note the 2 springs, but they're pretty obvious which way they go, and they're not under huge tension when you re-install.

Definitely take the cotter pin out first. Ask how I know! Otherwise, sturgeon's right - easy peasy.

This is a great site and community. Gives confidence to noob mechanics like myself. I'm heading out now to pull that brake pedal off.
