I spent my youth riding out there.

It's been a long time since I've been there. * laugh *

Did you ride off-road in and out of there ?

At the end of Ave "J" right ?

We rode from Acton across Fort Tejon to Black Butte Road then cut across to 230th East straight out to the Hi Vista area.
Phacellia Wildlife Reserve is there with rock formations overlooking EAFB.
I grew up on the eastside. My folks owned The Ponderosa on 165th and J.
If you're an oldtimer you'll remember that. thumb

Take a look: http://www.rapiddog.net/BLOG/PONDEROSA.htm

Remember it I do... I think I am there on that starting line !

Raced there several times beginning at about age 11.

I think my BIL (Arvin Cox) was the first to win a Hare Scrambles (There) on a 125cc Sachs.

We worked at my father's shop, but was actually racing for Ted Lapidakis out of Hercules Distributing.

...many 'exotic' brands there and then. Greeves Challengers, DKW, Sachs, Bultacos, etal...all there to take a stab at the desert sleds.
When JN Roberts showed up on his Husky, well, it was over. I think he was on the bar's winners plaque about 3 or 4 times.
Bud Ekins showed up one Saturday with a couple buddies on spankin' new Triumphs all decked out.
One of them was a guy Bud just called 'Steve'.... bow

...and for those who may pass by this thread, "Steve" was as-in the actor, "McQueen" whom frequented the local venues and raced desert from time-to-time.

Bud Ekins was a local race legend that actually did the M/C jump out of the intern camp for McQueen in "The Great Escape"

Ever ride over in what was referred to as Holiday Valley ? There is a YouTube video of McQueen advertising the Honda Elsinore. That was Holiday Valley. We rode there a lot and also at Bean Cyn.

Checked out your blogspot. That took me back. What happened to all the trees ?

I always wondered where that was shot, thinking about it today. Looked like Colorado or some such.

The place when to helll after my folks sold it around '67-'68.
Water table dropped after that. Most alfalfa fields went tits up.
The bar is still there but rented as a house. The old house is still there. Not much of anything else.
The reservoir, once filled to the brim and surrouned by trees, full of bluie gill and catfsih, ut's almost non-existent.
Time marches on... budah
