Its a pretty straightforward install. All you need is a 5mm allen key, an 8mm socket for the seat bolts, and a phillips screwdriver for the tank shrouds and the new shroud mounts on the IMS tank. You might need a 10mm or 8mm socket to transfer the mounting brackets, I forget which.

Yup, the stock tank has a quick disconnect though it can be a bit of a PITA to get loose.

Don't drop the tank before the fuel line is disconnected, because it'll snap off the hose at the pump. This will require a new pump. Ask me how I know... Don't drop the tank after you've removed the hose either and its free to roll around, because you'll snap off the hose. Others here can tell you about that one.

Gas will come out of the fuel line when you disconnect it, so have some towels ready to soak it up.

Be careful that you don't strip the heads on the 6 allen head's that hold the fuel pump in. Have a backup set just in case, they're cheap and you'll probably need at least one.

Use the big honkin' o-ring instead of the stock gasket.

Torque the fuel pump bolts back down in a star pattern to prevent warping the plate and causing a leak.

You'll likely have to bend out the new shroud mounting tabs a little to get them to slide on smoothly.

Do a search for "IMS tank" and you will find a photo post of one guy installing his tank. Very informative post, I used his picture post when I installed my IMS tank. I only wish I would have lowered the low fuel sensor when I had the fuel pump off.

I wish I had done this also. In the stock location the fuel light comes on with about a gallon left in the tank on my bike. If I go to the station after the light comes on I can only get about 2 gallons in. The next time I have to take the tank off I am going to look into lowering it.

I've got everything off but the bolt down screws/bolts. I don't see any connectors yet.
Are you saying not to lift the tank up after removing the screws? Otherwise I can't see any connections with the tank on.
Maybe you just mean don't drop the tank on the bench/floor?

When I un-do the quick disconnects, you mean just the gas in the lines will come out, yes?
I'd assume like most quick disconnects the fuel is shut off from the tank.
Of course my tank is near-full...

I know you must know that you should drain the tank now before doing anything else.
Here's another look at how to do the install:
