 lowing brake pedal - stop switch

I lowered my brake pedal today and noticed it was pulling the spring down thats connected to some kind of switch .. the OEM part online says its a stop switch. I made some adjustments so it did not engage the switch until pushed the brake pedal down .. just curious what that switch does?

i keep forgetting that thing is back there ha ha i was thinking .. what could that switch .. a light?
