Did you need a new gasket?

The manual calls for a new gasket once the cover is removed, but they do the same for the drain plug washer, and we all know we don't replace those every time...

I've got some funky clutch action I want to inspect, but not if I need to have a new gasket on hand before putting it back together. I've got a trackday on Saturday!

It's mostly likely a paper fiber gasket and will be destroyed when you remove the cover. I normally replace that gasket with RTV on my bikes instead of OEM paper junk.

Every man should have a tube of Loctite 518 (or similar) on the shelf deal

Less mess than RTV. Faster setting.

Chances are the first time you remove the cover, the gasket will be toast. But when I reinstall a new gasket, I coat one side with gasket sealer and grease the other. Sealing isn't a problem and I can now *usually* remove the cover without destroying the gasket.

I have opened the clutch cover many times and not damaged the gasket, but I have a spare $4 gasket.

i've had mine off a couple of times for clutch stuff/things...no problem with the gasket if you're careful...A+ on what Chrispy1200 says, oil the gasket lightly and it will come off easier, great if you plan removing the cover lots...having a spare on hand is also great, makes you less nervous...
