Is your headlight as dim as mine??? Empty
PostSubject: Is your headlight as dim as mine???   Is your headlight as dim as mine??? EmptyWed May 02, 2012 3:29 am

Howdy all,

I bought my WRR with 2,700 miles on it and the original owner installed tiny turn signals in the headlight fairing (where the white sticker is) Last night I rode to work and was shocked at how little light was on the road.

It seemed like the headlight was pointed up so I flicked on the brights and the light got brighter and I could see the light spot ahead on the road.

So when I pulled in the very dark parking lot I could see right where the light was going. It was pointed a little high, but still the weakest headlight I have ever seen. The brights are about where the low beam should be, but with horrible light spread.

My questions:

Is there something wrong? Did the guy I buy it from jack something up with the electrics? Or is the headlight on the WRR a piece of shit???

Thanks,

Everett.

Hmmm... I ride my X in the dark quite often and I've never felt the headlight was unsafely dim.

It's by no means awesome, but I don't think I get what you have.

You can adjust the light beam if you think it's pointing too high or too low.
There are two screw on the front of headlight fairing for adjustment.

Post a picture of the "custom" turn signal and headlight combination.

It's quite possible the previous owner has monkeyed with the positioning of the headlight.

More than a few people have switched headlights on their bikes and loved the upgrade.

So yes - the light is kinda weak relative to some other modes of transportation, but it shouldn't be as horrible as you make it sound.

I've seen bicycle headlights way brighter than this.

I did adjust the light down until I ran out of screw. This helped with seeing the light on the ground but not much of an inprovment.

When the low beam is on, the light is dim and pointed where I think the high beam should be pointed.

And when the high beam is on, the light is brighter but pointed down where the low beam should be.

I know this makes no sence. scratch

Can you post pictures?

You said previous owner somewhat cannibalized the stock shroud and stuff.

Might help if we could see what's been done.

A new bulb will likely help, I was pleasantly surprised at the difference it made in mine. I'm still not satisfied and want to upgrade eventually, but it was a cheap experiment and did make a difference.

I should have torn the headlight apart before posting but now we can learn from uncle Everetts over site.

I pulled the headlight shroud off and starting looking for wiring issues. Nothing stood out until I starting thinking on how the previous owner drilled the holes for the little blinkers.

I would have taken the bulb out to make sure I didn't brake it, So lets have a look. BAAAM! the bulb was one ear sideways.

That must be why there was very little light spread onto the ground and would explain why the high beam and low beam acted backwards.

I'll double check tonight when I goto work but I'm pretty sure that's it.

Thanks for the quick help and I'll still post a pic of the blinkers.

Everett.

My suggestion was going to be to check the bulb installation... You beat me to it though.

I was not impressed with the light output either so I went HID. I'm quite pleased now.

I agree to upgrade the light bulb. Quick and easy improvement. You will get much whiter lighter, which is a lot more penetrating thumb
