Temp light Empty
PostSubject: Temp light   Temp light EmptyThu Aug 04, 2011 7:56 am

OK I can now report that I've seen the temp light while riding at speed. I was running near 70mph with 13-48 gearing and an MT43 on the rear. No issues for miles and miles of running. I came upon a pickup going a few mph slower and dropped to fifth to get ready to pass. Took a while for an opening to appear and that is when the temp light came on. It was 115 degrees so rather warm, pulling up behind the pickup resulted in me being in his wake turbulance and the pickup was dumping heat into the air so it was really warm. As soon as I moved out to pass and upshifted the light almost immediately cleared with no other issues. So it does happen but only under some rather hot conditions.

I was out playing in the bush today and my light came on as well. It didn't go away though. I have an inline coolant temp sensor on the bike and every time I would cruise at 90+Kim's on the highway home, my temp would rise and rise. Hit 116d Celcius. When I let off a little it would drop down but still up around 108. Normally I see the high temps after 20-30min in the trails riding hard but as soon as you get a spot to open it up the temp would drop to 98ish and that's where it usually runs.

Any thoughts on this? I couldn't tell if the fan was on or not however when I was riding the trails and stopped for breaks etc the fan was for sure running?

My fear, water pump issues or something with the rad. Tomorrow morning will be the test as I have to ride to work...
