One will charge your battery, the other, kill it.

I take it one does both 12V and 6V, the other just 12V? Am I missing something here?

The WR has a 12v battery. Right?

So it seems the choice has to be the 12v model.

Not being an electrical guy though I thought the amps was the real deal and the voltage was more just a time thing.

Something about water through a hose, and the time it takes to get the same amount of water through different sized hoses....

Would a 6v BT model not maintain the battery properly?

I think of it that 12v is the 'pressure' coming out of the battery therefore you need more than 12V to force 'power' back into the battery...
(the charger is supplying more than 12V initially but as the battery nears 'full' it will start to provide a small top-up 'conditioning' charge at regular intervals at a voltage closer to 12). Remember the bike supplies 14V at 5000rpm to charge the battery.
