My low fuel light is regularly coming on at 1.1-1.2 gal used. Is that normal?

Comes on close to 1.5 gallons used on mine.

Do you make sure it is actually filled at the pump? In my experience most pumps will cut off a bit too soon.

I fill it to just above the top baffle. That metal cheese grater looking thing about 2inches down from the top of the tank. It's a CA 1.9gal model fwiw.

It's rather annoying. often times I'm out on the coast away from civilization. The light will come on a give me anxiety lol. I start wondering how much I really have left, will I make it back, ect.

Is there an arm with a float level sensor like an auto? I've sucessfully bent those in the past to read more appropriately.

There are 2 re-settable odometers on the X/R.

It does not take long at all to know what your mpg's are.

As long as your low fuel light is consistent, use the odometer to KNOW exactly what you have left in the tank.

Once my light comes on I know I can comfortably go another 20-25 miles.

If my light came on consistently with 7/10th of a gallon left in my tank I would know I could easily go 35 more miles.

Do some math. amazon

Yeah I wish it were that easy. If it was i wouldnt have bothered asking. My millage when the light comes on varies quite a bit depending on what type of riding and speeds i'm doing. I also quite often rolll in Tach mode, which makes things even more difficult.

It's as easy or as difficult as you want to make it.

For one thing - there's no need to use a tach.

Second...your gas tank capacity does not change and you are in complete control of your riding style.

As long as your low fuel light is consistent - you have no problem.

But - if you insist something is wrong - take it to a Yamaha dealer - or buy one of these:

I'm not saying anything is wrong. I've just heard many WR250 owners say they have 20-30miles reserve. I've done 50 on my "reserve" and still had fuel in the tank. thought it was odd. I'd prefer if teh light came on around 1.5gal used like Heoz's does. That's all. Any no, i'm not interested in rolling with a fuel tank/cell. Appreciate the ideas brah.

My fuel light comes on after I use about 1.2g, but sometimes it goes off. Then 10-12 miles later it comes back on and stays on. :hmmm:

I usually get gas at the next station once my light comes on.

Yep - my light's come on, gone off, come on again and then sometimes it takes movement after bike has been shut off to come on again.

It's a small tank. I assume it's a float sensor or something that's effected somewhat by the sloshing around of gas and whatnot.

There are also MSR bottles you can pack in a back pack and IMS tanks for greater fuel capacity.

Without an actual fuel gauge to watch, you have to do a little math and know what your range is on a tank of gas.

And you have to know what your range is once the reserve light comes on.

Yamaha gave you a handy tool in that once the reserve light comes on a special odometer shows up and alerts you to how far you've gone on reserve.

fuel pump - click me Sensor is in the first picture. It's on the fuel pump and it's the metal goodie with the black and white wires. You might be able to see if it's seated properly just by looking in the tank when the fuel is low. No arm to bend.
