Those two cables were once connected to the stock exhaust pipe's EXUP valve.

On the other side is the servo motor that operated the EXUP.

Since you have aftermarket pipe you can remove cables.

If you disconnect servo motor you'll get an error code on display unless you use one of many methods to over-ride that error code.

My bike has the stock exhaust but the EXUP is removed. The previous owner, in the 189 miles that he owned it put an FMF pipe on and removed all the EXUP stuff. He gave me the stock exhaust but not the EXUP components. I went back to the stock exhaust the day I brought it home.

I used a resistor as per SheWolf's post on "Cheapest DIY Servo Bypass" sticky thread to get rid of the error light. motokid posted a link to it. She suggests 7.5K resistor but I already had a 10K so I used it and it worked fine.

ok a big thank you for your answers.
I just looked at how to remove the error message and I tell myself that final quibble would be less if I only removed the cables.
Unless it's a bad idea...?

Nope.

I removed the cables and left the servo motor in place.

Been running that way for thousands of miles.

If I ever wanted, or needed to re-install the stock system, I'm ready to go.

Removing the servo will only save you about 2 pounds of weight.
