Clutch 101

Can anyone give a quick primer on the clutch. I've looked at the videos of clutch repair and it's seems easy enough. Not sure if I need to go in there yet though.

1) It seems in 1st and 2nd gear that the clutch engages the tranny all at once as opposed to gradually. Is this an early sign of wear?

2) If I open it up for inspection, what am I looking for?

3) Should I leave well enough alone as long as it's not slipping?


The engine oil is fine.

Thats just how it is on this bike, you dont need to move the lever much at all to go from engaged to disengaged.
If you want to fix that you need to change the leverage ratio on the clutch lever so you pull it further to disengage the clutch aka easy pull clutch levers.
Theres a bunch of ways to do that, RSC levers, moose ultimate easy pull clutch lever, msr raptor easy pull clutch lever, or redrill the stocker to change the leverage ratio its free and works as good as the other options.
