Bike it's dying off before stop lights

Hi guys, I went for a ride today and my x died about four times right before I get to a full stop. Any feedback on this?

I had a similar problem a few years back when my X would die just as the engine was idling at a stop. Turned out to be a spark plug. Don't know why because I only had around 1000 miles on the bike at the time. The plug just wasn't able to create the spark. Put a new one in & idled smooth. Put the old plug back in & after idling a minute or so would slowly sputter out & die.

Does your idle speed need adjusting?

Battery in tip-top shape?
Battery connections tight?
Airbox clear of obstructions?

I like to check the easy things first. Diggin' down to the spark plug is a pain, but obviously based on sswrx's post you might have to.

Before you do that check a few other easy things first.




Does bike idle normally when you start it up? Will it sit and idle forever?
Is it only when you're downshifting and slowing to a stop?

Fresh clean premium gas?

Do you have a fuel programmer? Other mods?

Has it been unused for a while? Gas old?

I rode today and it was fine, I didn't push it, but it was fine. If it does it again I will change the spark plug and keep you guys informed.
just as a side note I got pull over on my second week of owning the bike because license plate was not completely visible, he let me go with a warning :)

thread derail - I went to Roanoke College for two years many moons ago.

I'm sure it's changed quite a bit, but I'll bet you have some great on-road and off-road options around that area to ride in.

Set up the idle.. too low and it may start dying.
The idle is a phillips head screw on the bottom of the throttle body.
Easy adjstment.

If you put the speedo on the CO setting, (diag) it should show the tac.
Adjust the idle to be 1550 to 1650 rpm. See if the stoppage stuff goes away.

It is basically pushing buttons on the speedo.
Unfortunately, I can't remember the darn sequence.

Even without seeing the tach, you could just increace the idle... see if it helps.
I think clockwise on the screw increases idle... ?
Screw is 'not' sensitive... you gotta turn it a bit to increase/decrease idle.
