I've been enjoying my new-to-me WRR but have noticed that the clutch engages very near the end of the travel for the clutch lever. I can pull in the lever about 1/4 of it's travel and completely disengage the clutch. This bike only had 800 miles on it when I got it, so I doubt the clutch needs replacing. Is there any way to adjust the cable so the engagement point happens somewhere closer to the middle of the lever's travel?

Thats easy to do, just add a bit more free play/slack to the cable and you will have to pull the lever further.

you do this by sliding away the rubber cover by your clutch lever. it will reveal a little adjuster for the lever free flay. turn it to adjust to liking!

Mine does the same dang thing. This is my biggest gripe about the bike. I think Yamaha just screwed up the clutch design on this. I've messed with my adjustments and no luck. Both at the lever and on the cable. It just sucks because my clutch keeps engaging in the last bit of throw.

I'll likely replace the clutch plates and springs and HOPE aftermarket parts will improve the crappy feel.

If you want to improve the crappy feel change to a easy pull lever, changes to the clutch plates and springs wont help at all.
You can mod the stocker to make it a easy pull lever or buy a new lever, the rightous stunt clutch lever is popular, the msr and moose easy pull levers will work good too.
Easy pull clutch levers make the friction zone longer as well as make the lever easier to pull, basicly you make it so you have to pull the lever almost twice as far before the clutch disengages.

how old is your cable? they stretch over time meaning your effective adjustment range reduces, mine is about half way to engage

Note there are two places two adjust the cable near the control. One at the lever and one a little further down. Between the two it would be impossible not to compensate for anything.
