Great news. I was going to do a 48/49 rear but that 12 front is close enough and since I am barely working I can get away with pinching pennies.

I have read about how they might prematurely wear but I need a new chain anyways its the original one so I can always change it later!

Would this be an OK sprocket to buy?

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Front-Sprocket-12-Tooth-Yamaha-WR250R-2008-2011-/170805861129

Its cheap but I cant see why it wouldnt work

Don't buy into the myth that a 12t will wear your chain more than a 13t.

I can't tell if an eBay sprocket will work or not. If you must have that one, it's up to whoever you're buying it from to be honest about what they're selling.

I bought my stuff from rockymountainATV.com

At least that way if it's wrong, they'll make it right.

On my other bike a gasagas 250 2 stroke a 12 tooth sprocket only last 1/2 as long as a 13, it eats em up fast they wear out in a few 100 kms and once they wear the chain takes a beating and wears out.
On higher powered bikes a 13 tooth is the smallest reccomended size.
The wrr only has 1/2 as much power so sprockets last alot longer but a 12 will still wear twice as fast as a 13, its not a myth it just takes sprockets a long time to wear out on low hp bikes.
I'd still throw a 12 on a bike with a stock chain tho and run it untill it wears out. When your due for a new set get 13-48.

I use a 12 x 50, and works great with no issues.

How do you like that gearing?
I have 13 50 and have been thinking of going to 12 50 to close the gaps up between the gears, with 13 50 the bike is still geared alot taller than off road only bikes.
I'd need a new chain to go bigger in the rear.
I ride mostly offroad and only need to go 50 mph on the road.
