Bike won't start in gear Empty
PostSubject: Bike won't start in gear   Bike won't start in gear EmptyTue Jul 23, 2013 8:34 pm

Hello all,
I have a 2009 wr250x. Recently I went to go for a ride. I started the bike up, put it in gear and then it died. I checked to make sure the kick stand is up, but the bike still dies whenever I put it in gear.

It will start in neutral but dies every time I put it in gear.

It won't start in gear, with the kick stand up or down, with the clutch in or out.

Starts in neutral with kick stand up and down, clutch in or out.

Hope that is clear.

Anyone have any ideas?

A short in the kick stand wiring somewhere.

It's a safety thing. Yamaha didn't want you riding away with kick stand down.

That safety switch, or the wiring to it, or from it is causing you issue.

That's my guess.

yep it certainly sounds like it is the side stand switch. that would be the first place to look.

there is also a sensor in the clutch which will not let your bike start if you are in gear, with the side stand up, if you haven't pulled in the clutch.

so it could be an issue with either of those two, but it's more likely to the side stand switch

+1. I think the sidestand switch affects the starter. The clutch safety, another. I may be wrong but I believe the sidestand switch shuts off the starter action.
