Hi everyone.  I was changing my oil today as part of my winterizing process and my oil looked strange for some reason.

As you can see it's not very dark which I can understand since I only put about 700 miles on this oil (Suzuki 10w40 4 stroke oil).  What's concerning to me is the milky/cloudy color it has.  Is this OK?  Does everyone's oil look like this when changing it only after a few hundred miles?

Was the engine run and the bike ridden for 15-or-so minutes to get it up to full temperature?
If not, could be normal.

I ran it for about 5 minutes. I guess I should have run it longer. Thanks.

Looks like some air in the oil.

Hmmm. The word 'milky' is a worry. Usually 'milky' means coolant in the oil, or lots of very short runs in cold weather, or a motor thats sucked in water.GAHHHH dunno

Either way, something needs to be done, as it's not unheard of for corrosion to build up and lunch bearings. This problem seems worse in liquid-cooled bike engines, no doubt due to lower crankcase temps.

If it is a coolant issue, it's not a huge deal. Bloody annoying, though. The oil and coolant has to be dumped, water pump and primary drive covers removed, and a new seal and gaskets fitted. While you're at it, a new bearing is cheap insurance, since a dud one will ruin the mechanical seal. If there is a coolant leak, it might be stuffed anyway.

Sorry if you already are onto it.Shog
