Packing List for the Giant Loop

Here is my packing list for living off the bike.










Big Agnes Lost Ranger Sleeping Bag 15 F (Dry bag on back of Loop)
Cabelas XPG 1 man tent (back of loop)
Thermo Reactor Liner (Brings bag another 15 F down and keeps bag clean)
Water Bag (place boiling water in bag before you go to bed will keep you warm all night. Cool trick the water will still be hot next morning.)
GSI Soloist cook set bag holds water also. Inside of pan lighter, TP, insect spray and spork.
Katadyn Hiker-Pro water filter
Big Agnes Sleeping Pad (insulated and acts as the bottom of the bag)
Camelbak (not in Loop)
Slime Air Pump
Extra moto pants, shirt and glove.
Socks, underwear and fleece pullover.
Tooth brush etc.
MSR WhisperLite Stove
MSR fuel Bottle (side of bike on stock tool strap for stove or in Emergency for reserve bike fuel)
Shoes small packing size
Tools: Stock tool roll,Allan wrench, tire spoon/axle wrench, spare bolts, brake/clutch levers, spare hand guard hardware, chain link, chain press, water pump cover/hose. One member in party carries tube and another tire iron. Long dusty trip carry extra filter.
Food: Dry meals, water add only meals, tuna/chicken in bags.
I even carried 4 16 ounce Beers in the Loop and cooled them in the creek.
Debit,cash and license.
Small chair (nice in desert)

Well I stepped off the bike once and it went the other way. You can tell the weight.

How long of a trip do you plan on taking that you take this amount of stuff?

I'm sure YamWow has a variable answer as well, but here's mine.

At some point you'd want a hot shower and wash the gear. Then again solar showers work just fine (assuming a water source).

You won't want to live on tea, tuna glop, granola bars and trail mix more than a few days. Four beers isn't going to get me that far.

The cooking fuel will last a few days. Not quite twice as long with a partner hauling the same volume.

The limiting factor (if you plan to ride every day) is gas of course. I'd say with two people fully-loaded no supplements (fishing etc) and assuming you'd go somewhere and camp (that has water). I think I could be fairly comfortable for a week.

My basis of estimate: I've snow-camped (out on X-C skiis in the back country) for a week pretty easily. Two weeks out in summer and having fish to eat. All different I realize....

We should plan a notional ride planned from say: Gorman area out for a week out through the des, up through the sequoias. Two plus days in Kennedy Meadows down through Kernville and return back out through the des. I'm trading the beer for whiskey and spare levers for a breakdown fishing pole.

That trip sounds great!!! But I'm with you. More than two days in a row camping off of a bike and (a) I'm pretty ripe (b) my back would be killing me from sleeping on the ground (c) I'd need some good grub cuz I stink as a backwoods chef.

Aw come on guys, with all that gear you can make it 2-3 weeks, maybe a month. I use a hammock when camping off a bike/kayak. There's a really cool hammock you can use as a tent too, Lawson Blue Ridge. I guess in the Army I got used to eating nothing but room temperature MREs. Get a couple boxes of clif bars, cans of tuna, and other foods like that and you'll be able to get by just fine. I just got the WRR and I'm still looking for luggage to carry the gear. I don't think my old saddlebags/tail bag will work on it. I know the tank bag won't. I wish handgun hunting was legal everywhere...and everything was in season all the time. That would make for some good eatin'.

If you can't live without hot food...a jetboil is great. Make some Ramen or other soups. MREs don't work for the road as they are too heavy. You can get them and remove entrees though!

My main concern with this thing is comfort...I don't see myself spending a whole day on it with the stock seat.
