Just returned from a 30+ hr round trip to bring R² home to Arkansas.
The savings made the long drive a no-brainer and will help to fund some
nice mods. I traveled to Andrew's Cycle in Salem, OH. It was a no
frills affair but price was the bottom line.
Rolled through STL (my old stompin grounds) early afternoon on Sunday.
On the way up I saw many inspirational rides. A few of them made me reconsider my choice of the R²
This one really had me thinking; I should get myself an F150 and mod it to death with cosmetic gizmos, that'd be more fun than the R², right?
If the small spoiler is worth 10-15HP, what is the HP gain when combined with the huge spoiler?
BTW, when I passed this guy I noticed he was wearing
the wolf sweatshirt....
Hauled ass through the night with a little rest-area nap mixed in.
Found the droids I was looking for right before sunrise.
Something wrong with this trailer:
Ahh FIXED!
Saw a drug bust on the way out of OH. Police had 3 "produce" trucks stopped and were going through the "goods"
Police were busy and didn't pay any attention to the speeding Outback with out-of-state plates
Thank You, Ohio
Made it back to Fayetteville just before sunrise this morning (took a
little sightseeing detour.) After several hours of rest, I turned the key for
the first time. 2 cranks and she was alive. It was raining here today,
perfect weather for my own modified "motoman" break-in!
Once she was warm, we jetted around my neighborhood, cruised around
downtown etc. Found a a hill with just enough grip to coax a smooth
wheelie out of her with 3 miles on the clock. Now I'm in love. As reported the bike
felt awesome! It looks and sits tall but once rolling it feels very
small. Riding on the stock DeathWings was kinda fun. Little power-slides
around corners with out the fear of my greedy throttle hand causing too
many problems. Brakes feel great, even in the wet. After about ten
miles and almost back to my house, I noticed the local patrol officer
was not in his usual spot so it was a perfect opportunity to cut down
the railroad tracks for a little hooligan style urban-dirt assault. The
suspension feels too springy for my 6'0" 145lb. build, but the handling
was superb. Riding on the slope of those large soaking wet, slick as
snot rail-road rocks was a nice test. Although it felt like riding on
ice, R² was composed and handled it well. The front felt a
little nervous when it took a big hit, but not as nervous as the rider.
Back behind the soup factory is a large 3-tier clearing with some elevation
change, waist high weeds and a soupy wet base. The stock rear tire
is pretty pathetic in these conditions and the front doesn't bite at
all, yet I stayed in that clearing for 10-15 minutes having a ball!
What hoot! R² is flickable and predictable even when the front
gets sucked into a muddy rut at 25MPH. Thought I could ride into my
building from the backside but found a fence blocking my path, so I had
to turn around and get out the same way I got in. No problem for
R², she was looking forward to it.
Back at home with no moving violations and R² didn't try to throw me off, not
even once. I just look at my YZ250 (2-stroke) it tries to kill me.
R² was refreshingly well behaved, even if I wasn't
This is gonna be fun......
Let the mods begin...
