I have been working hard to save for a new WRR bike but I am constantly looking for a good used machine. Well this weekend I came across a used bike that at first glance seemed to good the be true, the problem is it was not a Yamaha. A one owner 2013 Husqvarna TE449 dual sport with about 800 miles on it and about $1000 is add-ons, never ridden on the dirt for a $4200 asking price.
Intrigued I started my research, it was the Italian/BMW machine. First problem I found was the flameout off of idle and the oil leak that needed a $300 piece to fix it, Maybe doable. Strike two the small two gallon fuel tank for some reason mounted on the back fender. To extend the driving range past 100 miles IMS makes a tank that fits in the usual place but the seat now needs replaced because of the tank and that combo is $600. The $4200 bargain is dwindling. Strike 3, I read the people who now wait 7 months for parts because KTM bought Husky and didn't keep the engines selling them to Gas Gas. The bike is good until something breaks and then it is a coat rack.
Then I came to my senses. It was over 40 years ago I bought my first Yamaha in 1974 and the company is as strong as ever. Parts are not a problem and the WRR has been around for a while and engineered well. So well, if you see anyone who has a laps in sanity to sell a 2013 WR250R one owner with $1000 in add-ons, with 800 miles, oh and never ridden in the dirt for $4200, --- nay it will never happen.
