| It's widely accepted that WR's are built to be ragged, and are most fun when pushed hard. I myself ride the pants off my beloved WRR, however today I was asking myself how much is too much and can they take prolonged abuse? I had a few errands to run across the city, with above 60kms distance covered in heavy rush hour traffic and a short blast on the highway, constantly at the limit. Damn it felt good but I don't want to ruin my baby...I really do LOVE this bike! Do I gotta ease of the gas a little...or can I keep the hoonage at full throttle??! Thoughts? | |

| keep it pinned, WFO! I've read a few threads where that question that was asked. the answers were, Its 1/4 of an R1 engine, another was a guy checked in on a multi state highway trip and kept it pinned for hours. Make sure its in tune, air / Fuel and change oil often and as needed again, keep it WFO | |

| I rode my R2 WOT across the Florida Panhandle for 6 hours in the blazing heat. Bike was fine. Me? Not so much. | |

| Theres a guy on the ADV forum that rode his bike really loaded, all the way from Texas to Alaska and back, last count he had around 55,000 miles, his bike is mostly stock, but lots of highway wound out, I think they will pretty much run WFO longer than I will hahaha | |

| I guess it depends on gearing aswell, stock it wont have the power to pull 6th gear into the dangerzone. When mine was geared lower I clocked 140km/h (on the gps) at well over 10.000rpm.... I wouldn't wanna run it there for a long time, I actually backed of the throttle when I reached 140, because the bike was screaming!! I did however travel 1300km in 2 days, at 100-105km/h at 7500rpm. Thats about as high as I'll comfortably go for extended periods. Funny thing: I actually cruise at a higher speed when I remember my earplugs, as I cant hear the bike scream | |

| I would ride the crap out of it but just make sure to give the bike a halfway decent warmup and keep the oil fresh.
"they" say that 50-75% of engine wear occurs on start-up, if thats the case you can't be any harder on the bike than you are when you press the magic button.

| In the past, I had a hobby of buying used dirt bikes and dual-purpose (AKA on/off-road, AKA dual-sport since the early 1990s) bikes, fixing them up, having some fun riding them, and eventually selling them to get another project bike. It was a money loser, but fun.
One of the biggest reasons for killed engines is letting dirt through or around the air filter and into the engine. I was, and am still to this day, amazed at how many riders basically neglect the air filter, often not even caring if it's in proper working order, what it's present condition is, or even how it works and what condition it needs to be in to work properly. It is often a case of out of sight is out of mind.

| I have heard it referred to as one of the best engines ever built. And that was from a guy at a KTM dealer.
From what I've heard, if you leave it mostly stock, change the oil regularly, and feed it good premium fuel, it will run forever. They must have really overbuilt this engine.
That said, my Rhino, my daughter's TTR-90, and our 242 Limited S boat all run so perfectly, year after year, maybe it's a Yamaha thing...
