Trip to dealer Empty
PostSubject: Trip to dealer   Trip to dealer EmptyTue Oct 06, 2015 1:35 pm

I still have not found a WR and there are none here used it seems and the dealer here which is big does not have any either. I talked to a salesman there today and he said they didn't sell many of them as that market has dried up pretty much. He did say when they did sell one it was a KTM 350 and I will say they are sharp but the longevity bothers me on them. They don't have one of them either though. He went on to say they had WR 450Rs last year and I told him I thought they stopped making them a few years ago. When did they make the last wr450r for sale in the states? What are thoughts on the KTM 350 and it holding up mostly on the road? Will it need to be overhauled a lot sooner and if so at what mileage? He said they didn't really have any coming that he knew of and if they did it would be later in the winter or even Feb. but that they could order me one if I was serious about getting one. Is an oil change expensive even on the KTMs? Are parts high? I think I will just get a bicycle and be done. topes

From the sound of your concerns, you will be happier with a WR. I had the KTM350 EXC-F. I bought it AFTER getting the WR, and sold it. Still have the WRR. Is the KTM a good bike? Yes. Is it as cheap to maintain as a WR ? No, unless you cut corners, and if you do the KTM will self destruct eventually. Take a look at used KTM's that were poorly maintained. There's a reason the seller's friends aren't interested.

There's no such bike as a WR450R.

Haha I saw that too.
Figured he meant "F" but also betting the salesman was giving him a line... trying to sell what he had on hand, with fast talk about vapor-ware bikes and dying interest nonsense scratch

I was thinking several years ago they made a wr450r did they not? The salesman said they had some last year but I don't think he knew a lot. He was telling me the market for dual sports had dried up but if you see one for sale they want new price for it and then it is gone so I wonder. Maybe it was because he didn't have any to sell.

I am big on changing oil and things like that but don't like the deals that require a dealer. Why did you sell the KTM? I watched a video from KTM on youtube and they made it sound like they would need a rebuild pretty frequent. That is hard to believe. I guess I like the way they look as much as anything but have never been on one. I don't like the high price though.

The KTM is a fantastic bike. Much more expensive to own both at purchase and over the life of the bike. Better for hard core enduro riding, etc. Depends heavily on your primary use for the bike.

Liked mine, but I didn't need two low displacement street legal bikes. I detailed my personal view why the WRR got my vote for my needs here;

Negatory.
Yamaha Motor Co. has never produced a WR450R.
That's R as in Romeo.
Don't you think there would be a forum for the bike if they did?

The salesman either:

A) DNS (Don't Know Squat)
or
B) Meant to say WR450F
That's F as in Foxtrot.

This salesman said also that this market pretty much dried up about 20 years ago and I told him I stay about 20 years behind anyway. Very happy
