| I got the bike last Sat, 11/07/09 and put on my 1000 miles this week so I could get this over with. Went over the bike really good and only found what the dealer put on the to be done 1/2 ass. Dumped the oil and filtered it and pulled the filter apart to look for bits of the casting and all I found where really fine bits. Yam did a nice job on this bike..
I should have 2k on it by next week so I'll pull the tank and valve cover and check them and the Comp, to see where that is at..
I run the piss out of all my bikes and so far they all have shown to do much better then bikes people baby.. My DL has 50k on it and front and rear comp is 235psi where my friends DL with 35k is down at 205 psi and he likes to baby it and is one to change the oil every 3k. I always run AMSoil and keep it in for 10 to 15k. Filters will last to after you log 5k or so..
Anyways it's a sweet lil bike.....

| Yes 10 to 15k I bet after 15k you could put it back in and run 15k more.. Had a customer run his Connie all yr on the 10w40 and sent some to a oil lab and they told him to keep running it so he did.. Had over 30k on it.. Now if your only going to do the 4k a yr most do then use Yamalub and dump it every 1500.. | |

| two extremes.....I never understood the concept of changing oil, but not changing filter. 500 miles seems like nothing but waste - unless you're buying real shit for oil. 15,000 miles seems - well - too long. Especially for a bike with a thimble for a filter and only 1.5 quarts of oil. I'll be working the middle ground. _________________ 2008 WR250X Gearing: 13t - 48t Power Commander 5 / PC-V Airbox Door Removed - Flapper glued - AIS removed FmF Q4 Bridgestone Battlax BT-003rs

| Pull the filter, take it apart, look at it really good. What do you think your filtering out of your oil?
Also why pay 10.00 a qt for oil that is so good that you dump it with the same miles the guy does with 2.00 a qt oil..
24 yrs as a Tech and never seen a motor go cuz of the oil used in it.. 36 yrs of riding and I never cooked a motor cuz I run them as long as I do with the oils I use..
How do you all like your coffee???

I'll be working the middle ground. I work at a Yamaha dealer so I get Yamalube at cost. The bike takes less than a quart and half and it takes a whopping 10 min change. I had 2003 Raptor that I would change oil whenever it would turn dirty, sold it to a friend of mine who recenly had a big bore kit put in. The guy at the shop asked him if he ever rode it, because the cylinder/piston looked so good.

How do you all like your coffee??? What color is the oil when you put it in? It's damn near like honey right. Golden yellowish and almost clear. What color is your filter brand new? A light tan? How long does it take for that oil to turn chocolate? How long before it's like dark dark coffee? What about the color of the filter? You are free to do what you think is best. You've just posted the most extreme length of time I've ever heard for oil changes. I'm responding to that more than trying to get you to change your train of thought. _________________ 2008 WR250X Gearing: 13t - 48t Power Commander 5 / PC-V Airbox Door Removed - Flapper glued - AIS removed FmF Q4 Bridgestone Battlax BT-003rs

| Hun it's what we don't /cant see that will kill us. I can show you dirty water you can drink all day and live to 100 doing so and I can show you water so clean you will think it's the best but it will kill you in no time. My point is you don't know what you have till you get it tested..
Take my DL 50k. I get 235psi from both front and rear cyl and at 1500 mile I had 141 psi.. If what I'm doing is bad for the bike then why do I get the #'s I get and bikes that did the don't go over 4k for the first 600 miles and 7k for the next 400. Change oil and filter at 1500 to 3,000 miles.. Keep the motor out of the red..
So back to the coffee... I have one of them Keurig and love it, DD's to me is like dirty water...

| This is the only UOA I've found for a WR250R/X: 2008 WR250R, Shell Rotella 15W40 500 miles, 3500 miles on motor Do you happen to have any UOA's from yours running the Amsoil in it? As for coffee I like Maui Grown Coffee, from Lahaina, Maui, HI. EDIT: Whoops, just noticed that your bike is still relatively new. Sorry about that. Do you have any UOA's you care to share for any of your bikes? | |
