Subject: Rivit or Clip type master link. Wed Aug 23, 2017 2:35 pm
Ive just installed a new chain and sprockets. Chain came with clip type master link. Its long enough to swap between the 14t and 13t front sprocket. So my question is on this low HP dual sport bike is a clip type master link ok?. I understand orientation of the clip must be right. Any thoughts?

I've used the clip type on all my dirt bikes for 45 years, and never had any problems.

I also use a clip, and smear a bit of RTV on the sideplate where til clip mounts, to help keep it in place.

If you are looking at the chain on the bottom between the sprockets the clips rounded end should be toward the rear of the bike so the chain rotation would not be able to force it off if it came in contact with something. I've never had one come off either in 47 years and several years of desert racing.
