| So my 2012 Wr250r got stolen on Monday night/ Tuesday morning (dec. 4/5). Had it parked behind my student home with the steering lock on and have had it at my student home for multiple months without any problems. Then the other morning I wake up to take the recycling out and notice my kickstand pad laying in the grass and thought to myself I must have forgotten to pick it up when I moved it last; that's when I realized I didn't move it. I noticed that the wooden fence at the back of my yard that leads to the alley was smashed to bits, upon investigation found my tire tracks, handlebar pad cover and parts of my ignition in the alley. Called the cops and informed my insurance company and let it sink in that I may not have another bike for a couple years because the one I want next (R6) will be too expensive for insurance at the age of 21. I had my suspicions as to who it was because the garage I found the pieces of my ignition and handlebar pad cover out front of is a backwoods E-bike chop shop, and was locked up tighter than Fort Knox. Saw someone with a car loading shit out of the garage super late, I followed him when he left and got his plate number and figured out where he lives (this was last night the 7th). This morning I wake up to a text from a co-worker asking if I had found my bike yet and that he saw something that looked similar out front of his apartment. I drove over there and BAM, it's my bike, licence plate still on it along with the VIN but as you can see from the photos (hopefully they upload) she is very far from how pretty it used to be. Seems like you just can't have anything nice in Windsor, Ontario.
Cheers! Neil

| Did they take a grinder to the swing arm and paint it black?
That's a bummer, bikes get stolen in So Cal and taken across the border before you even know they're gone. LO-Jack pings the bike and sure enough, it's in Tijuana and there's nothing you can do about it.
Did you have insurance?

| Yes, they took a grinder to the swingarm because I had a "WR-R" sticker that ran the length of the swingarm, as well they ground the rear shock reservoir because I had placed a monster energy sticker on it. I guess a grinder seemed easier than a razor blade to this person to remove stickers. I do have insurance on the bike but I fear the insurance company will deem it not worth fixing and I will have to pay out of pocket for the repairs, which I can already see will be very expensive. A person walking their dog while I was recovering it told me where the guy they saw working on it lived so hopefully the cops do something about it and I don't have to. | |

| I have it locked in a garage now, I didn't have it in there before because I don't have access to it whenever I want so I would have to ask my landlord to come open it up whenever I wanted to ride. I'm sure as shit going to be more cautious now. | |

Sorry to hear that, hope they can nail the asswipes. I'm confused--when the bike was at the apartment building of your co-worker, was it abandoned there or did this idiot figure he'd removed enough identifying characteristics (which apparently didn't include the license plate?!) that he could drive/park it in public now?

| Unfortunately bikes this size are fairly easy to steal..... Two decent size guys could lift it up and put it in the back of a pick up in no time.
I am sort of amazed that they smashed the ignition and ground the other parts - seems like amateurs stole your bike.
If your insurance totals out the bike you could always opt to go the R3 route instead of the R6 if you want a more street orientated bike. Sure the R3 doesn't have the handling or stones that a R6 has but it is a lot cheaper and easier to insure. Besides it is always more fun to ride a slow bike fast than a fast bike slow.

| I believe the guy that stole it lived around the corner and was just keeping it there so it didn't look like he took it? I have thought about the R3 but I've ridden a ninja 300 and it is just not as quick as I would hope, I am also not ready to become a pavement only rider. | |
