AIS removal - Frame Removal Empty
PostSubject: Frame Removal   AIS removal - Frame Removal EmptySat Mar 10, 2018 3:29 pm

Tips? Got some rust action on front and lower parts of frame, which I treated last year however has come back with a vengeance so I'm thinking maybe remove frame & have it powder coated. Do I need to stick a jack under the engine or am i ok to simply remove all nuts/bolts & powder coat away until my hearts content? Anything else I might need to know?

I presume by "frame" you mean the steel downtube that runs in front of the engine, and not the twin-spar aluminium main frame.

The engine is supported at four points, three on the downtube, and one on the main frame; once you remove the downtube, the engine will be supported only by the pivot shaft. There are two additional anchor points that will prevent the engine from rotating around the pivot shaft: the exhaust (which is rigidly connected to the frame), and the intake (not so rigidly connected to the frame). I wouldn't expect the engine to rotate, but supporting it with a jack in not a bad idea.

Thats the one, sorry I'm not clued up on technical terms.

Sounds relatively simple, will have a crack when it gets a shade warmer. Cheers thumb
