please excuse non-technical/mechanical terminology below!!! if i knew what i was talking about i wouldnt be asking for your kind advice!

Done my first 1800kms on road and gravel/dirt roads... went out on a mototrcross track some boys had cut in a field the other night and had one hard off.... bike going down hard on right handle bar end and twisting as it hit (about 35/40kmph going into a u-turn right hander) :o(

the bars (stock) are bent from about an inch on the centre side of where the thin cross piece thingummy starts and as well as that when i hold the front wheel straight in line with the back wheel the fork mount thingummies are off centre...

i am assuming i will need a new set of bars (recommendations please) but what do i do about the fork alignment?

cheers!

Are you talking about the thig-a-ma-jiggers that clamp the fork tubes (called top and bottom triple clamps) or the whitch-a-call-its that clamp the handlebar to the top triple clamp?

I'm guessing it's the fork's position in the triple clamps by your description.
If that got whacked out of line, loosen the top clamping bolts that pinch the top clamp around the fork tubes.
Stand in front to the bike, put the front wheel between yout knees, grab the handlebar, and give a pull in the direction it needs to go to make it straight.
When satisfied, tighten the top triple clamp bolts.

Do what YZEtc said and then buy yourself some proper bars (I like Pro Taper EVOs) and the clamps to co with them and you'll be set.
