CHAIN GAURDS 945348 Has anyone removed the plastic front sprocket and rear chain gaurds on their wrr ?? do they really do anything besides collect mud and dirt ?? I was thinking about removing them but thought I would check here first. CHAIN GAURDS 945348

They're on there to dampen noise and avoid lawsuits.
I took mine off almost immediately after getting my bike. :)

I took off the front but left the rear. I found the front one was bad for pack ratting everything under the sun. The rear one hasn't given me any trouble. CHAIN GAURDS 61865

I removed the rear, I noticed that chain skip problem eliminated immediately.

I took the rear off but left the front on. The front one also acts as a case protector should a chain break and slam into the engine...

You can get an aftermarket steel front case protector/chain guard from WVsandman that still affords the protection, but allows debris to tumble out. He has some threads on this forum (mods & vendors, I believe?).

CHAIN GAURDS 945348 Just got my front sprocket cover and case saver from sandman,,he powdercoated mine black and they look great..I'm going to install it now,,,thanx everone

The front cover is a 2 piece affair. You can remove the cover part and leave the casesaver part, all you need is shorter bolts.That what I did. Its noisier but as SheWolf said, it gathers alot less muck in there.

Sandman up front, stock on the rear. Really I'm only leaving it because its ugly having those two mounts sticking up without the guard on.
